A degree completion date is not automatically a work-permission start date. If you plan to work after studying abroad, research the destination's current rules while you still have time to act. Keep course completion, existing student conditions, any post-study application and an employer's hiring process as separate milestones.
Start with your current conditions
Read the official conditions attached to your present status. Check what work is permitted during study and after course completion, including any restrictions relevant to the proposed job. Do not rely on a friend's arrangement or an old university discussion thread.
Ask your institution's authorized international-student adviser which official sources apply to your case. Keep notes of unresolved questions and verify them before agreeing to an incompatible start date. A careers adviser can help with applications, but immigration requirements still need the correct source.
Check the post-study route precisely
The UK Graduate visa is one example of a destination-specific route. Its official page sets out conditions including being in the UK, holding the relevant current student status, completing an eligible course and the education provider notifying the Home Office. A degree alone does not establish every requirement.
The same page distinguishes application timing and duration and records different rules for different application dates. Rather than copying a fixed duration from an old guide, check the live page for the date and qualification relevant to you. Other countries have their own systems.
Build a calendar of dependencies
Record your current permission expiry, course-related milestones and any application conditions. Distinguish an institution's graduation ceremony from the official completion or reporting step used by the relevant immigration process. Do not assume they occur on the same date.
Plan what documents and funds the applicable process requires using current official guidance. Allow for uncertainty without inventing a guaranteed decision date. If you may travel, check how travel interacts with any pending application before booking.
Explain your position accurately to employers
State your current status and the next step you expect to take without presenting an unapproved application as an approval. Ask the employer what evidence it requires and when. Do not promise unrestricted long-term work permission unless that is actually established.
Prepare a longer-term plan as well as the first post-study job search. Some routes cannot be extended or have specific conditions for moving to another route. Review those requirements early, while continuing to build relevant work evidence and realistic employer contacts.
