Marketing Jobs Abroad: Turn Campaign Work Into an Honest Case Study

A marketing case study should make your judgment visible. It should explain what the campaign was trying to achieve, what you personally did and what the evidence can support. For an international application, this helps an employer understand your work without already knowing the client, market or media environment.

Choose a case for the vacancy

Read the role carefully before selecting your example. A content role, performance role and broad marketing role may need different evidence. Choose a campaign that lets you discuss the relevant decisions rather than the campaign with the most recognizable brand.

The National Careers Service describes marketing work that includes customer research, content, budgets and analysis. Use that range as a reminder to identify your specific contribution. Do not present every activity in a team campaign as your own responsibility.

State the objective and the starting point

Explain the audience, business goal and constraints in plain language. Describe what success meant before the work began. If the brief changed, say so. Without that context, a large reach figure or attractive creative image can be difficult to interpret.

Then explain the action you owned: research, messaging, channel choice, production, testing or reporting. Show one decision and why it made sense with the information you had. Discuss what you rejected as well as what you chose when that helps explain your judgment.

Report results without overclaiming

Use figures you can verify and are allowed to share. State the time window, metric definition and comparison basis. Distinguish observations from causal claims: an improvement during a campaign does not by itself prove your work caused the whole change.

If the work was an exercise, label it as a speculative case rather than a real client result. If data is confidential, use an authorized summary or a clearly fictional demonstration. Never invent customer numbers, revenue or a return on investment to fill an empty portfolio section.

Make the case understandable across markets

Briefly explain any local context a foreign reviewer may not know, such as seasonality, channel usage or language constraints. Avoid suggesting that success in one audience automatically transfers to another. Show how you would research the new market instead.

Finish with what you learned and what you would test next. Check permissions for client names, creative assets and screenshots before sharing. Keep the final case short enough to discuss in an interview, with supporting evidence available only where you have permission to provide it.
