Years of experience and a senior title do not explain your value by themselves. When applying abroad, the employer may not know the scale of your organization, the meaning of your title or the decisions you owned. Translate seniority into clear evidence of responsibility, judgment and results without assuming your current rank transfers unchanged.
Describe scope before status
Explain what you were accountable for: a team, budget, process, product or other defined responsibility. Distinguish direct management from coordination and advice. Use figures only when accurate and permitted, and explain enough context for a foreign reviewer to understand their meaning.
A manager title in one organization may cover different work elsewhere. Read the target vacancy for the decisions and duties it includes. Match your evidence to those duties instead of arguing that your years of service automatically establish the appropriate level.
Select examples of judgment
Choose a difficult decision, a problem you diagnosed and a change you helped deliver. Explain the constraints, your action and the outcome you can support. Include how you worked with others and what you would do differently.
Do not claim the whole organization's results as your personal achievement. If you led a team, make your contribution and the team's contribution clear. Remove confidential client, employee and commercial information from any example you share.
Audit current and transferable skills
The National Careers Service recommends looking at both job-specific and transferable skills and comparing them with the work you want. Use that approach to identify which strengths transfer directly and which need local knowledge or updated practice.
A gap is not a reason to hide your experience. State what you know, what you are learning and what support you would need. For regulated work, verify the local recognition process separately. Do not treat senior experience as an exemption from requirements you have not checked.
Evaluate the move beyond the title
Compare the proposed responsibility, manager support, development path and household effects. A familiar title with less useful work may not serve your goals, while a different title may represent a worthwhile opportunity. Decide using the actual role rather than prestige alone.
Keep pay, permission, contract conditions and the cost of changing direction in the comparison. Before resigning, check the remaining dependencies and start-date assumptions. The aim is a move that uses your experience well, not simply an overseas version of your current job title.
